The jazz pianist David Skinner is a well-known musician among dancers in Oslo, since he has been bandleader for all the major swing dance events in Oslo for about ten years, in addition to running his own dancer-friendly monthly jazz club since 2019, “Café Society Oslo". His larger swing band, Jazzombies, has played at the Norwegian Lindy Hop festival "Winter Jump" every year.
David Skinner Swing Quintet was originally put together to perform at the yearly Oslo Balboa Weekend, and the band was such a hit that we invited them to join us for this year’s Scandinavian Shuffle. The band features the well-known David Skinner Swing Trio, featuring David Skinner on piano, Stig Hvalryg on bass, and Marcus Lewin on drums, who play regularly for swing dancers in Oslo. They are joined by two amazing guest musicians - Lars Frank on saxophone and clarinet, and Kristoffer Kompen on trombone.
The band says that it prides itself not only on how hard it can swing, but also on subtle interplay and variation, making an exciting, warm and creative atmosphere.
